The "Committee for the Families of the Kidnapped and Disappeared in Lebanon"

Is a non-governmental, non-profit organization. It was formed by the families of the victims on November 24, 1982, most of whom were women, Lebanese and non-Lebanese residing on Lebanese territory who were kidnapped and missing during the war that broke out in Lebanon from 1975 to 1990.

The committee is completely independent of any political, religious, or regional party.

The Committee was officially registered on March 7, 2000.

The missing persons come from all sects, regions, intellectual affiliations, cultural backgrounds, and social classes.

The estimated number amounted to 17,000 missing persons at the end of the war.

 

Objectives of the Committee:

1. To determine the fate of all missing and forcibly disappeared persons.

2. To contribute to citizenship awareness, and promote a culture of peace and respect for human rights.

3. To work on purifying memory and establishing a memorial monument to commemorate all war victims, serving as a tangible condemnation of its crimes and a deterrent against their repetition.
